Artist's Note

“I see the Indian market not merely as a place of buying and selling, but as a living landscape — one that breathes, moves, changes and tells countless stories.”

My paintings explore the vibrant spaces of Crawford Market, Mumbai, Karnataka markets, fruit and flower stalls, sweet marts and roadside marketplaces. Tarpaulins stretched against sun and rain become roofs, walls and architectural forms, while vendors, people and everyday objects create a constantly changing rhythm of life.

I am fascinated by the interplay of sunlight and shadow within these temporary spaces. The bright yellows, blues and greens of tarpaulins, along with fruits, flowers and objects, create a distinctive visual rhythm. Texture — the roughness of tarpaulin, the softness of flowers, weathered walls and wooden structures — preserves traces of time, labour and human interaction.

My compositions move between reality and abstraction. Behind every stall is a person, behind every object is a story, and behind every market is a culture. Through my paintings, I attempt to capture these fleeting moments and find poetry in everyday life.
